September is a good time to assess what is going on around
us. It is not the official start of the year because January
already has this role. But from years of schooling, somehow,
September feels like the beginning of something. Kids go to
school and get their alliances in place. Who am I friends
with? Who do I trust? Who is on my team, what are the dynamics?
Who supports me and who doesn’t? Who can I count on and
talk to when I have a problem?
At the office we can do the same thing. Question the role
we play on our team. Question the dynamics and make sure we
are deliberate about who we support and how we ask for support
when we need it. Maybe we don’t officially go back to
school in September, but we certainly can take a little time
and assess our situation and the relationships in the teams
we work with.
